What Comes Next..

Looking around the store

earlier this year had me thinking - Ok.. so what comes next ?

Stocking the ultimate fabric - Liberty Tana Lawn - loved by fabric collectors and sewers around the world for decades is quite simply a delight.

with Our range growing to include over 250 designs

if someone had told me before that I’d have a Liberty fabric shop, I don’t think I would have believed them.

Our range of Linen has also grown to include some amazing hues and finishes and we stock the habi and threads that we love using, together with the recent addition of Petit Pan fabrics from France.

so what else could you possibly need !!

One look at my Quilts gave me the answer

Stripes !! Checks !! and maybe a spot or two.

The perfect way to add interest and relief to the often floral dense Liberties.

If you’ve been reading my newsletters and blog for awhile, you’ll already know how much I love stripes and checks. Give me a striped binding or a checked backing and I’m happy. Loving the way they add graphic interest alongside Liberties, they’ll often find their way into my quilts. When Liberty produced the Elements range of stripes as part of their Futur collection, I was over the moon. Liberty Tana Lawn in stripes - what’s not to love !!

I wrote a blogpost titled - Give Your Quilt the WOW Factor, where I chatted about how important Contrast is in a quilt - Contrast in Colour, Pattern, Scale and Texture. Take a look - but essentially I talked about using contrast in a variety of ways to allow your Quilts to zing. The contrast in pattern you get from using stripes and checks allows you to appreciate your Liberty heroes.

What to expect?

Given the time lag between ordering fabric and it arriving in store, our collection of stripes, checks and dots has very slowly started to build - with more to come.

The ever popular micro checks - my go-to in so many of my quilts are in store. You can see the fabulous contrast the yellow micro check in my Hexagon Tour Quilt gives the Liberty Strawberry Thief hexagons.

NB: The Japanese producers of these woven checks have been closing down - so unfortunately, when they’re gone.. they’re gone.

We now stock Yuwa fabrics

A renowned Japanese producer of simply divine fabrics - their checks and stripes have started to arrive in store. You may notice I use them a lot in my quilts - their narrow woven stripes make fabulous bindings. I also love to include their checks in my Quilts. Front and centre - the green Yuwa check featured in the centre medallion of my Raspberry Drive Quilt. The Yuwa checks also make fabulous bindings, especially when cut on the bias and provide great contrast as a backing for your quilts. You can find the Yuwa fabrics here.

and for beaumont square quilt lovers - Exciting news..

if you’ve been holding out, looking for the green stripe I used in the outer borders of my Beaumont Square Quilt - I have been able to order some and look to having it in store early next year.

Also in store

Kei Honeycomb spots

in watermelon, green, grey and black. You may recognise I bound my Hexagon Tour Quilt with the watermelon - they are kind of fabulous.

and a controversial topic for some

- Liberty Lasenby Cotton.

To the true Liberty traditionalist - the practicality of Liberty Lasenby cotton has won out.

While I don’t intend to stock a huge amount of Liberty Lasenby cotton, I have included a range of Wiltshire Shadow. Keeping the Liberty vibe alive but providing a more economical alternative for backings or backgrounds. I think they complement the classic Tana Lawn and do come in some delicious hues.

I used the Cloud colour way as a backing for my Clifton Ties Quilt and I love that it adds that extra Liberty flair to the quilt.

I’d love to hear how you use stripes and checks in your quilts or your thoughts on Liberty Lasenby Cotton.

Drop me a comment below and until next time, happy stitching
